Sometimes, Mom would get up quietly while the rest of us were shushing each other to listen to what he had to say, and she would go to the kitchen for peace and quiet. (I wonder now if she ever prayed for the stranger to leave.)
Dad ruled our household with certain moral convictions, but the stranger never felt obligated to honor them. Profanity, for example, was not allowed in our home… Not from us, our friends or any visitors. Our longtime visitor, however, got away with four-letter words that burned my ears and made my dad squirm and my mother blush. My Dad didn’t permit the use of alcohol. But the stranger encouraged us to try it on a regular basis. He made cigarettes look cool, cigars manly and pipes distinguished.
He talked freely (much too freely!) about sex. His comments were sometimes blatant, sometimes suggestive, and generally embarrassing.
I now know that my early concepts about relationships were influenced strongly by the stranger. Time after time, he opposed the values of my parents, yet he was seldom rebuked… And NEVER asked to leave.
More than fifty years have passed since the stranger moved in with our family. He has blended right in and is not nearly as fascinating as he was at first. Still, if you could walk into my parents’ den today, you would still find him sitting over in his corner, waiting for someone to listen to him talk and watch him draw his pictures. Categorically, he destroyed all the moral values, ethics, love, time for each other and other good qualities we had in our family…..whilst adding some unnoticeable quantity of positive stuff also, which any way we would have had even without him……
His name?…. .. .
We just call him ‘TV.’
Dear Readers, Please suggest a moral for this beautiful story!!
After reading all the article I was thinking it will be shaitan but I was wrong its not shaitan its human thing hahahahaha

Maamoo Jaan, Don’t try to be OVER EXCITED.
1st of all I tell me who Put the Foot on Your Tail (AAP KI DUM PAR PAA’ON KISS NAY RAKHAA).
2ndly, Its my right to write my view as if I like some thing or not. When I see a good creation I praise it. Maamooo This is the way the things get criticized.
By the way, Ur name is “Maamoon” means “Brother of mother”, but u talk so cheap, Be careful for the NEXT time , “Kaheen Koi Bhaanjaa , Bad-Tameezi naa kar Day..” 😉
(1) Groucho Marx said: “I find television to be very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go in the other room and read a book”.
(2) Stop Your Life From Slipping Away;
(3) Television Causes Violence;
(4) Television Teaches Us To Be Passive Lemmings;
(5) Television Is Making Us Stupid;
(6) Television Is Making Us Fat;
(7) Television Makes Us Materialistic;
(8) The study shows, “The average American now loses 9 years of their life to the glowing box”. You could calculate your year lose from wacthing TV
Dear , how can one calculate his life loss, how much life is written for you inthe Holy Tablet (Loh-e-Mahfooz) nothing can reduce it..
so keep it up…
Dear Muhammad Adil:Salam. I agree with you that we don’t know our exact age of survival. It is Allaah the Almighty knows. Therefore it is difficult to calculate the lose of years caused by TV. However, using statistical probability and life expectancy of your country, you could arrive at a certain conclusion: “How much time lost by watching TV on average”. You could also termed this as as trend analysis. Zajak-Allaahu Khairan fid-dunya wal-akhera.
Wonderful. I liked all your points. So true.
Of course everybody must have met TV’s – he is called Internet.
And boy is smart – he is every where -PC , laptop, tablet, mobile.
Nice one Sara.
And quite good points mentioned by doctor.
I hope you guys have meet TV’s son –
The Internet.
And he is smart…
In your PC, laptop, iPad, mobile…
Is any thing remaining?
Parents may not be in a position to rebuke the stranger but they do have power of silencing it when not behaving befitting family’s integrity and values. That done, they can enjoy the company of the stranger and learn lot more from it.
This a must have and deal with evil
This is true,but what’s about media in general.
Undoubtedly it’s all true I am a card surgeon and I know that tv(all recreations being watched on screen)is infact TB
This is not sensible to expose oneself to a disease causing agent and then to say I will refrain from it’s effects due to strong immunity prevention is better than cure
I have found encouraging results in patients of long standing hypertension and heart disease to stop viewing news and they ended up all the activity as they found it’s I’ll effects on health which is worldly loss
Ulema sat that while watching tv each one of us commits 18 big sins(kabira gunah) which is loss in hereafter
TV is doing more harm than good in this generation. We should put more effort in creating other methods of impacting Islamic knowledge to our younger ones. The world is changing very fast, therefor let us use our strength that ALLAH has given us to defeat this evil.
But Bello,
Should we stop using internet and TV? what do people say???
The TV and the internet are slow poison that gently dieorientate us to the wish of the dajal. Please let us keep them under seriouse control and check.
TV is not that bad , if you select the correct channels you would like to see, delete the others and don’t watch what you don’t like. You can’t stop the progress and the technology to inter your life. But be faith.
Never admit welcoming a stranger in your home for more than three nights; not fifty years!!!!! Adopting an orphan is encouraged but to follow your own morals and life styles.
the villian is not the intruder it’s the one who let him in and let him take over.
we can’t keep whining about the things that was forced upon us, but we can take the best of use out of it.
@Agent,
That is an amazing analysis.
How can a teenage person make use of it, knowing the fact that they always strive after the things that their parents ban them? By one way or other they will make use of it but in negative way.
Tyvm Sara, and for mr najeeb there has been a protector for many many years as old as humanity which is boundries, boundries are these strong restrictions which are build in us, i’ll give u an example, if u went to some place and they told u there is a lion in the dark room over there, u won’t get near to it cause u’ll know that there is a risk and there is dangerouses, and if u’d see people around u never approaching this place u’ll never have the guts to be there, but unfortunatly nowadays all of the people are in that dark room over there, but it’s not a hard task in sha2 allah to make the new comers to this world reject being there…
TV was invented for information transfer and for fast communication of happenings…. we can make it better and its possible
the story is more than beautiful.
@ E Feedback125, the modern technological development such as the invention of the Tvs, Radios, telephones ( GSM) and the Internet are the greatest challenges to the Muslim world today. The Muslim societies must come up with better alternatives to all these. But so far and to the best of my knowledge there is nothing yet, Why ?
Alhumdulillah there are still many homes even now, who hav not kept TV in there houses. Alhumdulillah there are many children even now, who seen a single cartoon, serial and movie. Infact TV is one of the biggest sign of Day of Judgment and it is near. Do you know the signs of Day of Judgement???Allah says in Quran:
“Are they waiting for anything except the Hour, to come to them suddenly? But its Signs have already come!” (Al-Qur’ân, Surah Muhammad)
And Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has said the following:
‘IMRAN IBN HUSAYN SAID: ‘THE PROPHET (AS) SAID, ‘SOME PEOPLE OF THIS UMMAH WILL BE SWALLOWED BY THE EARTH, TRANSFORMED INTO ANIMALS, AND SOME WILL BE BOMBARDED WITH STONES’. ONE OF THE MUSLIMS ASKED, WHEN WILL THAT BE O MESSENGER Of ALLAH?’ HE SAID, ‘WHEN SINGERS AND MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS WILL BECOME POPULAR, AND MUCH WINE IS DRUNK.
*Singing girls would appear on the scene
Readers, plz tell what is shown on the TV. It talks openly about love, sex, alcohol and every crime and bad deed that prevails in our society is taught by TV. It has taught children to disobey their parents and has encouraged youth to do love marriages (against parent’s will). It taught people new ways of cheating and deceiving one another. And in fact many teenage girls have lost their virginity because of believing what is shown on TV to be true. Although there are many different stories people have seen, there are millions of stories of destruction caused by TV.
People say it depends on how we use it. But what is shown on all the channels is only vulgarity.
Question to all Muslims: IF Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would have been with us today, would he have permitted us to keep TV in our homes???
May Almighty Allah guide all of us and keep us refrained from performing sins. Ameen.
I believe the prophet talked about something like tvs nd radios..he said that metal things will talk in the future nd thats it
Nice btw!
it diverts the mind from creator to towards creation
technology is a double edged weapon
we should use it wisely
BTW TV isn’t always bad
we cant deny its good role.. but we should use it wisely
lol! nice one 🙂
Amazing
Shaks**
