I reflected on what Ahmed said. Soon thereafter, I left the tower industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.
Several years later, I heard that Ahmed was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Ahmed was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.
I saw Ahmed about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins. Wanna see my scars?”
I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place. “The first thing that went through my mind was the well being of my soon-to-be- born daughter,” Ahmed replied.
“Weren’t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?” I asked.
Ahmed continued, “The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the Emergency and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read ‘He’s a dead man.’ I knew I needed to take action.”
“What did you do?” I asked. “Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me,” said Ahmed. “She asked if I was allergic to anything. ‘Yes,’ I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Gravity.’ Over their laughter, I told them, ‘I want to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead’.”
Ahmed lived, and passed through the difficult phase because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, makes a big difference in Life.

life has good sides and bad sides but every person is responsible to how he/she would react to either of the situations!!!! and ya i agree that every person called ahmad or mohammad would be ammmmmmmazing !!!!!!
Nice Story, but we have to concern on another thing. that is the difference between positivity and optimism, a person has to be a positive thinker as well as an optimistic thinker, what is the difference?
A positive thinker is not a designer of life, he only can do the first half right, yes he can tell ‘this is for good’ ‘what happened is for a good reason’ ‘all is well’, but he will not produce an efficient outcome from that lose, but an optimistic thinker will complete the second part, he will make the dreams true, he gives hopes upon the life and future and guide towards achivements.
try not to have the positivity alone but try to have both together.
Salams to All. wassalam
Positive approach never fails. Positive thinking leads to healthiest and peaceful life.
Each and every thing has two sides, people normally see one side (negative side) and ruin their life. They do not see the other side (positive side). There will be lessons, fortunes, way to success, happiness, God’s grace etc., etc., to have the life meaningful.
Let me quote our Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam: “Difficulties in your life do not come to destroy you. But to help you realise your hidden POTENTIAL and POWER. Let Difficulties know that you too are Difficult”
Actually, it is very rare to have such people in our world , and what puzzles me is the fact that we are muslims who should be always positive, but we find westerners talking more on positive thinking(e.g. Jim Rhon). i know that it is not exclusive but why not us?????
What else would you expect from someone named Ahmad? I’m proud of my father who gave me the same name – Ahmad
the name Ahmed is our Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) name.. so a person named Ahmed has to be positive.. his name is POSITIVE.. 🙂 SubhanAllah. but one lesson we learn is that difficulties come but one should always see the bright outcome in life.
LIFE IS LIKE TRAVELLING AT SEA
All those people who can ignore the things and let go the serious situation in life and think if you have to travel at sea then why to worry from strong winds and storms. When storm do come in your life dont say storm you are serious and huge to me say you are nothing and my GOD is too big to handle you. Storm never stay and dive away
What a breathtaking, movtivational and inspiring story. I choose to live long and happier.
You can choose to live happier but not long. That decision belongs to God
