Moral of the story “One must not engage in duties other than his own“
Now take a new look at the same story…..
The washer man was a well educated man from a premier management institute. He had the fundas of looking at the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. He was convinced that there must be some reason for the donkey to bray in the night.. He walked outside a little and did some fact finding, applied a bottom up approach, figured out from the ground realities that there was a thief who broke in and the donkey only wanted to alert him about it. Looking at the donkey’s extra initiative and going beyond the call of the duty, he rewarded him with lot of hay and other perks and became his favourite pet.
The dog’s life didn’t change much, except that now the donkey was more motivated in doing the dog’s duties as well. In the annual appraisal the dog managed “ME” (Met Expectations) .
Soon the dog realized that the donkey is taking care of his duties and he can enjoy his life sleeping and lazing around.
The donkey was rated as “star performer”. The donkey had to live up to his already high performance standards. Soon he was over burdened with work and always under pressure and now is looking for a New Job.
Disclaimer: All characters in the story are not at all imaginary. Any resemblance to person living or dying of work is purely intentional and is corporate related.
Very true story as per todays corporate business ethics.
The over initiative gets the beating & utimately sidelined & all promotions stopped, for crossing his/her line of duty and straying into others duties & responsibilities.
It will be either a transfer to a remote place or notice to lose job.
True Story well narrated.
DEAR ALL
These are funny storeis to learn, laugh. No sorry or injustice feeling with any character
Rightly said Mr.Sajid.
Once we are using animals to teach us good lessons of life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And one more lesson is that we must not type-cast them, too!!!!!!!!!!!!
the moral at the end of the story should be change……
the fact is that the people who dont care for others are not suppose to be friend ……
the kind hearted donkey got no reward of his kind deed……but we may not generalise the result……
a small dose to expatriate workers who works with native workers.
ta trat tatat.. yat yatta
Hi Dear Sara, I do not agree with the first comments ‘ONE MUST NOT ENGAGE IN DUTIES THAN HIS” but subsequently agree with the second comments. however I feel regret of the washer man’s injustice action toward the donkey with over loading him, taking advantage of his silent, resulting that to search for another job.
well done Sara, in caring to explore a second Moral explanation which made the subject more ideologic and interesting…..Bravo

not impressed!
but still an intelligent story.
excellent and educative story. donkey is all right, i m sure he would be getting double salary from his new sponsor.
a story similar to my situation
1st version or the 2nd?
I usually like most or your stories & articles, but this one was not like the rest. How come helping others come in a wrong category? The donkey helped his master by getting rid of the thief/by trying to alert him about the thief. Even if, sometimes, the (short-termed) consequences are not good, at least the person (or donkey in this case) will not have a guilty conscience for the rest of his/her life. I applaud the donkey.
Dear SAB,
This is happening in the corporate world because due to different work culture, different managerial style like democratic, autocratic, laissez-faire & paternalistic etc. Sara has given a true picture of corporate management style. Thanks to her.
Well Said Sharif123
I don’t know if what you say is true.
Are there really people who are such a mess!
lol. This story is not at all a story but reality. The DISCLAIMER is the icing on the cake and is very true. lol
May be!
But how do you know it’s true!
I enjoy your stories, but be careful of the negatives in the disclaimer – it should be ‘are all imaginary” and ‘unintentional”.
Nice Story and nice lesson 🙂
All characters in the story are not at all imaginary. Any resemblance to person living or dying of work is purely intentional and is corporate related.
i thought you’d say the opposite for legal reasons
